Our Worship is the centerpiece of weekly life
Set in our 1873 Gothic building, our worship reflects both the rich tradition of the Presbyterian Church USA and the current needs of our diverse congregation.
The Presbyterian Church celebrates Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Baptism in a sign of God's love. In that love a child or an adult is embraced as good and whole. Our community promises to nuture that person's faith development. In infant baptism we encourage parents to take anactive role in the church community and to be partners with the church in the religious education of their child. In adult baptism, the person commits his or her life to Christ. Through God's grace in Christ we are made new. The sacrament of baptism occures several times a year.
Reformer John Calvin celebrated weekly the Lord's Supper, a rich part of the Presbyterian Heritage that we embrace. Christ's spiritual presence sustains us as we break bread and share the cup in Christ's name, for it fills our hearts with God's generosity.
The ancient rite of the laying on of hands is a healing service, a ritual valued by our community. Several times a year a healing service is offered whereby participants receive the laying on of hands and the oil of healing. The Bible is filled with examples of Jesus' healing, so we call on Christ to heal us and those we love.
Special requests for healing can be made to the pastoral staff during the services.
The labyrinth has been used in our healing service as a meditative way to enliven spirituality
Outdoor Jazz Services
Calvary St. Andrew's hosts two outdoor services, one in the spring and one in the fall, to celebrate our worship service in our courtyard and share a meal in fellowship. The service features special jazz music, an especially relaxed atmosphere, and a meal of barbecued chicken or mexican food. Our South Wedge neighbors are invited to join us for the outdoor services.
Please join us for Sunday Services at 11 AM. Fellowship time begins after worship. Come as you are! You are welcome any time.
