Announcements
from Staff and Congregation:
MISSION MADNESS
On
April 26th CSA is hosting the youth from Mission Madness of the
Presbytery. Youth and adults go into the neighborhoods to do
mission. We've been a host for over 15 years. This year is no
exception. We have 8-10 youth and adults who will come to Pam
Hyman's home on April 26th from 10-12 to scrap garage, mulch,
tend plants, paint drywall. I need two CSA folks to help me
coordinate the project. Let me know soon if you can help.
Second
I'm looking for two CSA folks that would like to organize our
youth to go on Mission madness to help other churches. That
commitment is 9-2..youth get to meet other youth--junior high to
senior high...again let me know if you can coordinate.....
THIS
PROJECT IS A GREAT WAY TO SERVE CHRIST, IMPACT KIDS AND HELP
PAM.....it's a winning combination. I'm taking the lead and will
be there...
With
the growth of the choir we are seeing the emergence of the
needed sopranos that Don has asked for. Now he's put a call out
for more men. Do you know some men who like to sing and have fun
singing in the choir? On Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. you are
invited to join Don and the choir.
Do
you know any people who are looking for renovation work, but
can't afford a commercial contractor? I am hoping to be able
to find people who got crazy quotes from contractors, and I
can underbid them and save someone some money. I can some
plumbing and electrical work as well as most general
carpentry, floor installation, tile work and painting. I'm
quite good at painting. Ben can show you the work he has
done in his own home and his properties...contact him....
Our
Programs
We
have an active education
program for all ages.
Christian
Education
Youth
ministry is the village’s responsibility
Teens:
Teens meet weekly for fellowship and education.
Christmas
Pageant: On Christmas Eve, the church was packed with family
and friends as the children and teens provided their
rendition of Mary and Joseph’s engagement, her pregnancy and
the birth of Jesus.
Sunday
School and Sunday Adult Education: A new curriculum entitled
“Seasons of the Spirit” by the Whole People of God was
implemented in 2003-2004. The teaching team brought renewed
energy and spirit to our program. Additionally, periodic adult
education events were held throughout the year.
Bible
Studies:
At different times, a group of folks meet at the church to
study the Bible and to pray. The participants share insights and
questions about the Bible. Through discussions, videos and
personal testimony, the group wrestles with theological and
practical questions of faith.
Training
Center for Urban Interns and Seminarians: Established by the
National Presbyterian Church USA, the Intern Program is designed
to place seminary students in field opportunities to learn key
aspects of what it takes to turn around declining congregations
often set within changing communities. CSA has been a part of
the training program since it’s inception.

“The
CSA Choir has brought me back to God and to God’s people…
Within its circle I find peace, love, comfort, warmth,
friendship and so much more. I look forward to Thursday night
rehearsal; it is a time of peace and quiet after a busy,
sometimes frantic, day at the office. My spirit is fed as our
voices blend, as we learn new anthems or dive into an old
favorite.” - Nancy Lauterbach
Members
of the Choir, composed of men and women who come together in
rehearsal on Thursday evenings and before service on Sundays,
proclaim their love of music and service to God.
“Choir
is a place I come for friendship, fun and music. The friendships
I've made in the choir will be with me forever.” -
David Hyman
“The choir is like a second family to me. We have a prayer
circle after each practice on Thursday evenings, where we can
share our concerns or ask for prayers. I know I could ask for
help/advice from just about any choir member, and I would do the
same for them. It’s a great group.” -
Cathy Buggie
Small
group ministries, including a Men's Group, meet regularly.
The Men’s Group is celebrating its tenth year. They
gather for fellowship, discussion, and prayer the third Wednesday
of the month at 6:30 a.m., starting this day fortified by
delicious dishes cooked by participants.

Partners
in Ministry
As
the lay shepherds of the church, the congregation is divided
among the lay Partners in Ministry members. We each engage
as often as possible with our individual shepherding group
throughout the month by phone calls, e-mail, cards, home
gatherings, and Sunday morning conversations.
|
The
committee meets the second Monday of each month. Our main focus is
to best meet the needs of the people in our church community.
Concerns (prayers, nursing home visits, hospital visits, rides to
church, meetings, doctors, or delivering meals) are brought to the
table for discussion and possible solutions are evaluated. All
concerns and discussions are kept confidential.
Several
times each year, the congregation gathers at a member’s home for
fellowship and fun.
The
Hospitality Ministry sponsors other events:
-
A
day at Charlotte Beach
-
An
evening at a Red Wings game.
-
Parish
picnic
-
Golf
tournament
-
Bike
trip
-
Christmas
Tree decorating
-
A
festive Christmas Pageant
-
Thanksgiving
in February dinner.
As
God welcomes us in a Spirit of Hospitality, we in turn, reach
out to family, friends, and strangers invite them into our
spiritual home. In a spirit of hospitality our desire is to have
our spiritual home in such order that those who come will feel
comfortable and want to return.
